Inside EvoSwitch a behind-the-scenes look at our colocation implementation process

There are many different steps we take here at EvoSwitch to help our customers get their datacenter service up-and-running, from the initial consultation right through to installation, always supported by our friendly customer service team.

At EvoSwitch, delivering a quality colocation service is dependent on the requirements of the individual customer. All our customers have different IT requirements; from financial services customers that look for certification and reliability, to hosting providers that want strong, quality bandwidth and enabled flexibility.

This process of identifying customer requirements starts with an initial consultation to really get under the skin of what the customer is looking for in terms of their IT environment. We make every effort to get to know the companies we work with, and draw on our experience to support our recommendations. We ideally like to invite new customers to visit our datacenters for an initial face-to-face meeting; this helps engagement with the process and allows customers to raise any questions or queries first hand.

An example of this process is the consultation that took place between EvoSwitch and Codemasters, the developer and worldwide publisher of entertainment software. When Codemasters appointed EvoSwitch, our first step was to invite them to our datacenter in Haarlem for a face-to-face meeting, where we had a chance to ask Codemasters everything we needed to know about their infrastructure requirements. We soon learnt that these requirements were hugely influenced by the demands of gamers, and therefore included features such as a reliable uptime, connectivity and redundancy.

EvoSwitch at the Storage Expo 2011

EvoSwitch, a next generation and carbon-neutral datacenter, is participating in the Storage- and Security exhibition on the 2nd and 3rd November 2011 at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht, Netherlands. This event allows EvoSwitch to demonstrate its ability to support customers with storage requirements, both simple and complicated.

The Storage Expo is organized in the same hall as Infosecurity.nl and the Tooling Event, and is an important event for our industry. We expect to speak to IT managers and CIOs looking for advice or debates about storage, access and data security issues. We are more than happy to discuss our experience with datacenter building, tackling key issues such as CAPEX and OPEX, as well as flexible power and cooling processes. The team members manning our stand and who are eager to meet you include Stijn Grove (Sales Manager), Ronald van Muijden and Olivia Blanco from the sales department, and Steve Ramdharie, our Carrier-Relationship Manager.

As referred to in previous blogs, innovation is always at the forefront of our operations. During the event, we aim to talk to customers and prospects about their experience and future plans relating to cloud storage, archiving, backup and data duplication, data protection, virtualization and storage resource management. Another driving force behind the company is the way we handle connectivity requirements. We are carrier neutral, but Steve helps our clients to make the right choices with regards to their connectivity requirements. By providing these types of services – and not losing our neutrality – we have managed continuous growth over the last years.

Would you like to know more, but dont have the time to come to Utrecht? Find us on Twitter (@EvoSwitch) or our facebook page! If you would like to schedule a meet and greet or just want to drop by for a coffee send an email to sales@evoswitch.com!

Come and see us at Stand #A051

Day 1: Green Data Center Conference, London Cloud computing, site selection and buzz!

From Jan Wiersma, Technical Director, EvoSwitch at GDCON, London

Datacenter discussions have begun, meetings are taking place and there was a cloud computing buzz in the air as the pre-summit workshops took place yesterday at Green Data Center Conference in London. It was a hardcore of industry enthusiasts, including myself, who yesterday attended the first 3 hour workshop of the day, on Cloud 101, with Tim Crawford at All Covered. The content largely resonated with what I have spoken about before on this blog, which is that the hype around cloud computing and virtualisation is now dying out the industry and its clients are getting realistic. In my view, theres a mixed reaction among datacenter companies. Some are worried about the effect on traditional colocation services, while others see it as an opportunity to provide additional services in provisioning for the cloud. Either way you look at it, the market is definitely moving!

Datacenter design and adiabatic cooling

EvoSwitch Datacenter design and adiabatic cooling discussed DataCenterDynamics Amsterdam conference

Jan Wiersma, our Technical Director, attended the DataCenterDynamics conference in Amsterdamon tuesday. The finest brains in the industry gathered there to discuss the future of the datacenter industry, changing customer requirements, and the latest technical advances. It was a great opportunity for the industry to share ideas and learn from each other.

Jan was one of the key speakers on new datacenter design, and specifically talked about developments in cooling techniques, such as adiabatic cooling. This technique cools outside air when it enters the the datacenter (or datacenter module), as opposed to traditional cooling methods which chill entire rooms. As you can understand, this is a much more energy-efficient way of cooling, leading to PUEs of 1.2 and lower.

A carrier neutral datacenter provides freedom of choice

EvoSwitch is recognized as one of the most energy-efficient datacenters in Europe. In addition to being climate neutral, the datacenter is also carrier neutral. Ourcustomers already have a choice of more than 35 international carriers, with thisnumber set to increase to over 50 on-site carriers by the end of the year. Thisensures we provide the best available options in connectivity to our customers, who in turn then prioritize their telecom providers and build a global infrastructurethat really fulfills their requirements best.

Choice in connectivity is absolutely critical to companies looking for a trulyredundant infrastructure. Our datacenter is conveniently located in the Amsterdamregion next to one of the largest internet hubs in the world, AMS-IX, and is thusclosely connected to a large number of trans-Atlantic fibers. And thanks to therising number of supplying carriers, connectivity within the datacenter is alsosignificantly increasing. Carrier neutrality means independency and transparencyfor customers, ensuring they have real freedom of choice in working with a provideror even a combination of providers. This way customers can get the best globalinfrastructure and connectivity, rather than just being able to choose from a selectfew.
