EvoSwitch participating in Round of Texel sailing competition

Open Dutch Championship starts according to schedule

According to schedule the Zwitserleven Open Dutch Championship wil start at 14.30 h. There are two races planned for today, three for tomorrow and Friday. 84 competitors have registered for the Dutch Open. Most of them in the Open Class 1, about eleven in the Open Class 2.

The wind is strong, but not too strong. “Between 18 and 20 knots at this moment, a bit increasing to 23 knots in the afternoon. It wont be more than that, I guess. So no reason for cancelling the races of today, says Jeroen Tirion assistant to the race director. “So the conditions are perfect, nothing to worry about.

Choppy waves

At 13.00 h the current will change to the south, against the wind. Jeroen: “There will be short, choppy waves, but not to many throughs. Each race will be about 40 45 minutes, so its a good deal of racing this afternoon.

EvoSwitch Director Eric Boonstra talks about the future for datacenters in the Netherlands

Amsterdams growing data center industry has been looking more closely at green technologies in recent years.Local provider Evoswitch, which has one of the largest data centers in The Netherlands, in Amsterdam, opened in 2006.Evoswitch managing director Eric Boonstra said since opening it has been looking at innovation with regards to data center technology to help it run more efficiently.

It is about more than cost leadership for our customers, there is law and regulation on the horizon for emissions (in The Netherlands), similar to the carbon credit scheme in the UK, Boonstra said.

Especially here in Amsterdam, the city is focussed on being one of the greenest cities in Europe and is focussed on the reduction efforts for carbon emissions) on data centers, which are one of the largest consumers of energy in the city.”

Furthermore, Boonstra said the Dutch government has also set rules for its own procurement, and is putting initiatives in place which mean the government will only deal with large businesses it feels are running in an efficient manner.

The changing world of data center design

We are living in times of quick change and innovation; communication is changing with services such as Twitter, WhatsApp and Ping, knowledge is at our fingertips with blogs and wikis used worldwide, and Cloud computing is giving us access to computer resources using a mouse click and a credit-card. This pace of innovation can also be seen in data center design. I believe we have seen more innovation in data center infrastructure in the past five years than we did the previous 15. A lot of this innovation is driven by the mega-service operators; delivering these cloud and social media services.
